Let’s “Fix-The Rec” at the Tierrasanta Pool!

Today, the Tierrasanta Foundation, in cooperation with the Recreation Council and the County of San Diego, announces the first phase of our fundraising campaign to invest in improvements at the Tierrasanta Recreation Center and the Tierrasanta Pool.

The pool is a valuable asset to the community but has begun to show wear and tear. In 2023, the Foundation contributed $7,000 for the purchase of new umbrellas and pool chairs at the pool. In 2024, we have worked with the Pool Manager, Stephen Yoo, and the Aquatic Division Area Manager, Kathy Castello, to identify sorely-needed improvements to the pool facility. And we’d like your help to make this possible!

We have two projects planned. The first, led by Dr. Hani Shatila representing the legacy Recreation Council, involves painting the pool building. If we buy the paint, the City of San Diego will power-wash and paint the exterior of the building. You can see from this photo, that it’s long overdue.

The second project involves replacing the sun-damaged and nearly opaque windows between the pool building and the pool itself. As Kathy noted, “the 2 largest windows are in the pool offices where it’s imperative for staff to have a constant view of the swimming pool in the event of an emergency. Currently, staff must look through an adjacent doorway to see outside.” The Tierrasanta Foundation is committed to replacing these windows. Again, a picture is worth a thousand words

Additional community support for these efforts will allow us to complete these projects and initiate new ones at the Pool and soon, at the Rec Center. So we’d like to ask Tierrasantans to help us. We need 85 gallons of paint – at a cost of $40/gal. And replacing the 7 pool windows will cost about $5,000. So how ‘bout buying some paint or part of a window?
