Making improvements to the Tierrasanta Recreation Center and Pool
The Tierrasanta Community Park & Recreation Center has been a mainstay of the community for over 30 years.
Tierrasanta’s Rec Center is in need of modern amenities & upgrades. To help with this TF just gave the City of San Diego a check for $7,000 to buy new tables, chairs and umbrellas for the community swimming pool.
If you have walked the grounds recently, you will see plenty of room for repair and improvement. We all know how hot the gym gets during summer afternoons - some air conditioning sure would be nice! Some things have been broken for so long that some of our residents never knew it existed. (I didn’t.)
Not just for sports activities, the center is also a gathering place for residents, local businesses, and neighborhood organizations. It’s a place where our children can learn to swim, where teens can take up tennis, and where our retired friends can meet for Mah Jongg.

Who are we?
The Tierrasanta Foundation was established 15 years ago to improve Tierrasanta infrastructure. Since then, we’ve held events such as the Tierrasanta 5K and the 50th anniversary party, and built the bandstand at the rec center.
Our mission is to promote the general welfare and interests of Tierrasanta through various community events that benefit the well being and quality of life for all Tierrasantans.
We have been a voice of the community since 2008 and with our integral connections to the city and county, we will be heard.
Why should we “Fix The Rec”?
The Tierrasanta Rec Center is a place where we go to support one another. It’s a convenient destination where neighbors can meet, greet, and share in activities that build our community. It’s where we forge relationships and merge values. Tierrasanta Foundation sees the incredible potential of updating the recreation center. With your support and backing, we can create something that would inevitably add to the richness of the community for years to come.
We know T-Town rocks. A clean, well-run, and organized recreation center shows that we care about our community and our culture.
Why has the Rec Center deteriorated?
Over the years, the center’s facilities have begun to show their age. With budget cuts and insufficient funding from the City, there are quite a few things that have fallen into disrepair. Currently, the City is understaffed and underfunded. It shouldn’t be a surprise that the City took many months to fix a broken basketball rim inside our gymnasium. If you can imagine there’s no time to repair the small things, then there is definitely no time to repair the big things. The reality is that we could wait years for the City to improve our neighborhood, or we could empower each other and make a change now!
Why doesn’t the initiative include more?
While we have big dreams, we intend to begin with some simple and necessary equipment purchases – new furniture for the Pool and new backboards in the gym. With funding from the Tierrasanta Foundation and the Recreation Council matching donations for all of us, let’s see if we can get these improvements in place for the summer season!
This initiative is a small snowball that we’d like to roll down the hill. We are hoping that it builds into more change, more partnerships, and a more cohesive sense of community. We have to start somewhere. You may not play basketball or swim in the rec pool, but we are sure you care about someone who does. Alone we can only help ourselves, but together we can help each other.
